Smart Cleaning Tips

I’m always happy to get a handy cleaning tip that makes things just a little bit easier. That’s why I’ve put together a few simple tricks for you, from making your stainless steel surfaces shine again to freshening up musty sneakers. I’m also sharing handy tips for the microwave, cutting boards, grout, and much more. Read on to find out which tips you might already be able to try at home!

Restoring the Shine to Stainless Steel

Stainless steel surfaces can quickly lose their luster. You can restore their shine by applying a small amount of olive oil to a soft cloth. Rub gently for a beautiful, even finish.

Removing Limescale and Stains

Half a lemon works wonders against limescale. Rub it over the spot, let it sit for a moment, and then wipe it away. Your faucets will look bright and clean again.

Cleaning a Coffee Maker

Denture tablets are handy for cleaning a coffee maker. Let them dissolve in water and run a cycle. Then rinse thoroughly for a fresh taste and less discoloration.

Refreshing musty sneakers

Trouble with smelly sneakers? Sprinkle some baking soda in your shoes and let it sit overnight. The powder absorbs odors. The next day, shake it out, and they’ll smell much fresher.

Tip: Test new cleaning methods on an inconspicuous spot first.

Tackling stubborn toilet stains

An unexpected helper: cola. Pour it into the toilet bowl, let it sit for a while, and then scrub it clean. This makes it easier to remove light stains in particular.

Cleaning dirty grout

Make a paste of baking soda and dish soap and apply it to the grout. Scrub with an old toothbrush, then rinse. This removes dirt and discoloration.

Restoring shine to dull glassware

Glassware that has lost its shine can be soaked in a vinegar solution. After rinsing and drying, it will look clear again.

Deodorizing wooden cutting boards

Use coarse salt and lemon to clean your cutting board. Scrub the surface thoroughly, then rinse it off. This helps remove odors and light stains.

Refreshing a Mattress

A light spray of vodka can help refresh your mattress. It helps reduce odors. Be sure to let it dry completely before making the bed again.

Cleaning the Microwave

Fill a small bowl with water and add a few lemon slices. Place it in the microwave for a few minutes until the water starts to steam. Then let it sit for a moment with the door closed. The steam loosens dirt, making it easy to wipe away with a cloth afterward.

Please note: If you’d like to make and use these remedies yourself, you do so at your own risk.
