5 ways to use Lavender

I always make lots of different things using lavender at this time of year. I just love to bring that pure fragrance into the house. Here are five different projects that are easy to try at home. I can’t wait to see what you decide to create using lavender. Have fun!

Lavender reed diffuser

You will need:
– 10-15 drops of lavender essential oil
– 1⁄4 cup of almond oil
– glass bottle or vase
– 6-8 thin bamboo sticks (e.g. skewers)

Combine the almond oil and lavender essential oil in your bottle or vase. Mix well. Now insert the sticks. Turn these over after a couple of hours, and your reed diffuser is ready to use! Place it in your living room, bedroom or bathroom. Turn the sticks every couple of days for a fresh fragrance boost.

Lavender honey

You will need:
– 1-2 tbsp dried lavender flowers
– jar of runny honey
– clean glass jar

Put the lavender in a jar. Now pour the honey over the top. Leave to stand for at least a week in a cool, dry place. If you don’t want any flowers in your honey, sieve the lavender back out. Store the honey in a
tightly sealed glass jar. Lavender honey is delicious on toast or stirred into your tea!

Lavender bath salts

You will need:

– 10 drops of lavender essential oil
– 1 cup of Epsom salt or coarse sea salt
– 2 tbsp dried lavender flowers
– a couple of drops of purple colouring

Combine the salt and lavender flowers in a bowl. Add the lavender oil and stir well. Then add a couple of drops of colouring to create a nice shade of purple. Scoop everything into a glass jar with a lid. Your bath salts are now ready to enjoy! Use 2 to 3 tablespoons per bath.

Lavender stamps

You will need:
– sprigs of fresh or dried lavender
– acrylic paint or gouache
– a paintbrush and sponge
– newspaper or card to cover your work surface
– a diary, journal or notebook

Cover your work surface with newspaper or card and place a sprig of lavender on top. Dab or brush the flowers carefully with some paint. Lay the sprig paint side down on top of the page you want to decorate. Place
a clean piece of paper on top and press down gently with your hand. Lift everything off the page carefully and admire your lavender print! Leave to dry completely and repeat, using different colours or arrangements for a playful effect. I added some lavender stamps to my diary.

Lavender confetti

You will need:

– dried lavender flowers
– dried flower petals
– paper cones or bags

Mix the lavender flowers and petals together in a bowl. Scoop the confetti into cones or small bags. I like to give these as gifts, or use the confetti to decorate the table at a celebration, for example.
