Collecting, painting, and keeping stones

With my bare feet in the sand, a cool sea breeze blowing through my hair, and the waves gently rolling onto the beach, I stroll along the water’s edge with Rob, the kids, and Mr. Bear. We look at what the sea has left behind for us and put the prettiest stones in our pockets. I love walking along the beach like this, without any rush, while gazing out at the sea.

And those stones we found? They’ll get a new life at home. In this blog, I’ll show you how you can transform them into cheerful little works of art with paint and a little imagination. That way, you can take a little piece of that wonderful day at the beach home with you.

 

Here’s what you’ll need:
– smooth, flat stones
– white craft paint
– paintbrush
– acrylic markers in various colors
– black fineliner (optional)
– clear varnish

Tip: Want to display the stones outdoors? Give them a coat of clear varnish. That way, the colors won’t wash off during a rainstorm.

 

1. Give them a white base.

Paint the stones white. This will make the colors pop even more later on. Let the paint dry completely.

2. Come up with a simple design.

Small flowers, twigs, and leaves work perfectly. Keep the design simple; that’s what gives it a playful effect.

3. Draw the stems.

Start with a few green lines as the base for your flowers. This will help you determine the composition right away.

4. Create the flowers.

Add dots, hearts, or simple petals on top of the stems. Use cheerful colors like pink, yellow, blue, and orange.

5. Play with details

Add small dots, extra leaves, or a colored border around the stone for a playful result, and let everything dry thoroughly.

                       

Later, when you see the stones again on a windowsill or in a glass jar, they’ll instantly take you back to that sunny day at the beach.
