Pear with scarf

Daphe's Diary Pear with scarf


– 6 pears
– 2 cinnamon sticks
– 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
– 350 g sugar
– 400 ml water
– 6 long strips of puff pastry
– 1 beaten egg


Preheat the oven to 200 oC. Remove the skin from the pears, but leave the cores in. Then cut off the bottom of each, so that they stand up neatly. Add the sugar, cinnamon sticks and water to a pan and bring to the boil, until they form a syrup.

Then place the pears in the pan and continue to simmer for a further quarter of an hour. Remove the pears and allow the sugar mixture to cool down. Cut the puff pastry into narrow strips and wrap these around the pears. Brush the pears with the beaten egg and sprinkle with a little extra sugar and ground cinnamon.

Place them in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes. Then let them cool and carefully pour some syrup over the top of each.
