There are some vacations that I look back on with a big smile. Not just because of the beautiful places I’ve seen, but especially because of the moments that make a trip so special. An unexpected encounter with a sea turtle, floating on a mirror-smooth lake, or enjoying a view together that you’ll never forget.

In this blog, I’d love to take you to two of my favorite destinations: sunny Zakynthos and the impressive Lofoten Islands. I’ll tell you about our experiences there, why these places made such an impression on me, and why I’d recommend them to everyone. Will you join me on this journey?

Turquoise bays and hidden beaches

 

It’s been a little while now since we were on the Greek island of Zakynthos with the kids. This island in the Ionian Sea is famous for its clear blue waters, white cliffs and the famous Shipwreck Beach.

We hired a motorboat and spent a whole afternoon sailing along the coastline, which was full of hidden caves and little bays. The water seemed to be constantly changing colour. We saw a turtle swimming slowly past our boat and, a little later, spotted dolphins diving out to sea. Barney thought it was hilarious.

 

 

 

Floating through the Lofoten Islands

The Lofoten Islands are a breathtaking island group in northern Norway, famous for their steep mountainsides, deep fjords, picturesque shing villages and white sandy beaches. I sailed along the coast here with Rob in a little open motorboat. The daylight never seems to end and the water was so calm that the surrounding landscape was re ected perfectly. It was an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!

A Memory to Treasure

When I look back on these two trips, I realize how special it is to explore a destination from the water. You see places you’d never otherwise visit, and the pace naturally slows down a bit. Whether you’re sailing past the white cliffs of Zakynthos or drifting among the imposing mountains of the Lofoten Islands, these are memories that will stay with me for a long time to come.
