Anne came up with this amazing idea to create edible artworks from focaccia bread. I immediately felt inspired to decorate a focaccia loaf. Later, as we were walking through the supermarket together, we started seeing possibilities everywhere. We realized that so much food already looks like art on its own. We had so much fun creating these, and honestly… they turned out to be beautiful little masterpieces, don’t you think?
Basic focaccia recipe
You will need:
– 500 g flour
– 1 sachet dried yeast
– 10 g salt
– 300 ml warm water
– olive oil
Here’s how to make it:
Mix all the ingredients together. Preheat the oven to 200 °C. Grease the baking tray with olive oil and place the dough on the baking tray. Brush the top with olive oil and bake the focaccia for around 20 minutes until light golden brown.
Cheerful garden with asters focaccia
You will need:
– orange pepper
– cherry tomatoes
– parsley
– oregano
How to make it:
Cut the pepper in long strips and the tomatoes in slices. Use the herbs as flower stalks and make three large aster flowers using the strips of pepper. Use an olive as a flower bud. Arrange the tomatoes along the stalks to make little flowers.
It’s great fun to see the artwork change when it goes into the oven. I would definitely recommend taking some before and after photos.
A purple tulip garden focaccia
You will need:
– yellow pepper
– cherry tomatoes
– parsley
– red onion
– oregano
– freshly ground
salt and pepper
The colour and shape of the onions is so lovely, you don’t have to do anything else to them.
Let down your hair focaccia
Cut very thin slivers of the red pepper. Use these to create the outline of the woman. Make a wild mane of hair using thinner and thicker strips mixed together. Make a necklace from halved cherry tomatoes with sprigs of dill in between.
Are you going to decorate your own focaccia bread? I’m curious to see how it turns out! Looking for more cooking and baking inspiration? Check out my other recipes here.
