Happy Lamp

Sometimes it’s the simple materials that, when combined, can become something truly special. With a rice paper lampshade, some paint, and a few strips of paper, you can create a warm, colorful mood lamp in no time—one that instantly brings a cozy atmosphere to your home. In this DIY, I’ll show you step by step how to create a unique lamp, layer by layer.

Here’s what you’ll need:

– rice paper lamp

– paint samples

– scissors

– ruler

– glue

– blank A4 paper

Step 1: Painting

The best approach is to work with three colors that are in the same color family and thus blend into one another. Paint the sheets of paper in these three colors. Don’t paint the paper evenly in a single color; this will create a nicer effect later on.

Step 2: Measuring

Fold the paper in half, then measure and mark off equal strips, for example, 5 cm wide. Cut out the strips.

Step 3: Applying the Strips

Apply the strips all around, in two rows with the light color facing up. Then start with the next layer of color.

Step 4: Filling in the Gaps

Finally, fill in any empty spaces with strips. The lamp looks best when it’s completely covered. That way, any gaps will be less noticeable when the lamp is on.

Step 5: Hanging

Hang the lamp from a cord. Use a low-wattage bulb to prevent it from getting too hot.
