Father’s Day Breakfasts

Father’s Day always starts the same way for us: getting out of bed extra early, tiptoeing down the stairs, and finding a kitchen full of treats. Every year, Barney, Anne, and I head into the kitchen to whip up something delicious for Rob. By now, we’ve got a few favorites that we make every other year.

Today I’m sharing four of his favorite breakfasts, arranged from sweet to savory. Easy to make with the kids, festive to serve, and perfect for a relaxed Father’s Day morning.

1.French toast with strawberries and a dusting of powdered sugar

This is without a doubt Rob’s sweetest favorite. While I’m making the batter, Barney and Anne carefully arrange the strawberries on a plate. The aroma of warm cinnamon and freshly baked bread immediately fills the kitchen.

What do you need?

  • 4 slices of brioche or white bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Strawberries
  • Powdered sugar
  • Butter for frying

Here’s how I make it

I beat the eggs with the milk and cinnamon. I let the slices of bread soak in the mixture for a moment before frying them in a little butter until they’re golden brown. Then Barney and Anne sprinkle a light dusting of powdered sugar over them, scatter a handful of blueberries on top of the toast, and finish it off with a drizzle of honey.

Serve on a pretty tray with a small bouquet of flowers on the side for that real Father’s Day feel.

2. Yogurt parfait with granola and summer fruit

What I like best is probably how well Anne and Barney work together. I like to give them the freedom to experiment on their own and put their own spin on breakfast. Layer by layer, they fill the glasses with yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of chatting and tasting going on. And me? I especially enjoy the cozy bustle and the little moments together in the kitchen.

What do you need?

  • Greek yogurt
  • Granola
  • Blueberries
  • Raspberries
  • Honey

Here’s how I make it

In a glass, layer yogurt, granola, and fruit. Drizzle a little honey on top. It looks festive right away and is ready in just a few minutes.

Extra fun: write a sweet message on the glass with a chalk pen.

3. Croissants with scrambled eggs and chives

This is the kind of breakfast that never fails. Barney and Anne enjoy rolling out the croissants while I make the scrambled eggs. Together, we’re done in no time, and we have a meal on the table that looks like we spent hours preparing it.

What do you need?

  • Fresh croissants
  • 4 eggs
  • A splash of milk
  • Chives
  • Salt and pepper

Here’s how I make it

Roll out the ready-to-use croissant dough and bake the croissants according to the instructions on the package. While the croissants are in the oven, beat the eggs with a splash of milk and cook them into soft scrambled eggs. Once the croissants are golden brown, cut them open and fill them with the scrambled eggs. Top it off with some fresh chives for extra flavor.

Add a small glass of fresh orange juice, and it feels like you’re having breakfast at a hotel.

4.Avocado toast with egg and cress

Rob’s favorite savory dish. This is the breakfast he never makes himself, but always clearly enjoys.

What do you need?

  • 2 thick slices of sourdough bread
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 eggs
  • Cress
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper

Here’s how I make it

Mash the avocado with a few drops of lemon juice and spread it generously on the toasted bread. Then place a soft-boiled egg on top and finish it off with a handful of fresh cress.

Serve on a wooden board for a cozy, rustic look.

For us, Father’s Day isn’t about big gifts, but about making something together. While Barney and Anne are busy in the kitchen and Rob is still upstairs, unaware of what’s happening, that’s when the most beautiful moments often happen.

Love, Daphne
