Make a heart stamp from a potato

For Valentine’s Day, I sometimes make a heart stamp from a potato to decorate something if I don’t have anything else in the house. The other day Anne had a present for her best friend, but she couldn’t find any nice wrapping paper. So we decided to decorate some paper ourselves. What do you think of it? You can do this yourself very easily and you don’t need much.

Requirements

  • A potato
  • Knife
  • Cookie cutter
  • Acrylic paint and brush

How to make it

You can make two stamps out of one potato if you’re clever about it. First cut off the top and then slice the potato lengthways down the middle. Push a heart biscuit cutter into one half of the potato, pressing it in as hard as you can.

Cut away a centimetre of potato around the biscuit cutter, making sure you hold it firmly in place as you go. Now you can get stamping.

Paint a bit of red acrylic paint onto the stamp with a brush or pour the paint onto a plate and dip your stamp right into it. Whichever works best for you. And then: stamp, stamp, stamp. Make something beautiful!

Of course, you can use different colours of paint. Maybe you will make different kinds of stamps, such as big and small hearts. Plenty of possibilities, let your creativity run wild!
