Making Loofah Scrub Soap

Occasionally exfoliating your skin makes it smoother and more radiant. It cleanses the pores and helps your skincare products absorb better. This removal of dead skin cells from the surface of your skin can be done with this loofah scrub soap that I made from a loofah sponge. But be careful! This loofah scrub soap is suitable for use on the body, but not on the face. And don’t exfoliate too often, as it may irritate the skin.

The loofah sponge comes from the luffa plant, a genus of tropical and subtropical vines in the cucumber family. The plant mainly grows in warm climates in Asia and Africa. When the fruits are fully ripe, they are harvested, dried, and the outer skin is removed, leaving behind the fibrous interior that is used as a natural sponge.

Below, I’ll explain how I made some loofah scrub soaps.

What you’ll need:

  • Loofah sponge
  • Silicone mold
  • Mint glycerin soap
  • Bowl
  • Grater

Steps:

  1. Place the loofah sponge horizontally on a cutting board and slice it into pieces about 2.5 cm thick.
  2. Grate the mint glycerin soap into a bowl and microwave the bowl for 30 seconds or until the soap is melted.
  3. Pour the warm soap into a silicone mold up to a height of about 1.5 cm. You can optionally add a string, so you can hang it later. I forgot to do this myself.
  4. Press the loofah sponge onto the soap and let it dry for three hours. Once dry, your scrub loofah soap is ready to use!

Note: This is a DIY product. If you decide to make and use it, you do so at your own risk.
