There are those little things that make an ordinary day just a little bit better. A cup of tea in your favorite mug. A handwritten note. Or a simple pencil that turns into something special. Today, we’re turning an everyday pencil into a little butterfly full of color and charm. A cheerful touch on your desk, tucked between your planner or sketchbook.
Here’s what you’ll need
- a regular pencil
- pretty paper or scraps from old magazines
- scissors
- glue
- a black fineliner
- optional: ribbons, glitter, or small beads
Cut out the wings
Fold a piece of paper in half and draw half a butterfly shape along the fold. When you cut it out and unfold it, perfect wings suddenly appear. It’s as if the butterfly had been hiding in the paper all along.
Choose soft floral prints, pastel colors, or a mix of cheerful patterns. It’s that playful touch that makes it so charming.
Give your butterfly its own personality
Use a fineliner to draw small details:
- dots,
- fine lines,
- or graceful curls on the wings.
Nothing has to be perfectly straight. It’s the handmade touch that adds warmth.
Then carefully glue the wings onto the pencil. A narrow strip of paper in the middle forms the butterfly’s body.
And suddenly… a simple pencil has been transformed into something you can’t stop looking at.

Tip from the studio ✂️
Always keep pretty pieces of paper in a box. A scrap of wrapping paper, an old card, or a page from a magazine could turn out to be the perfect butterfly wing later on. Creativity is often hidden in the smallest scraps.
Have fun crafting!
