Make your own simmer pot: natural fragrance for your home

Today I have a super cute and simple idea for you: making your own simmer pot to make your home smell great. I love cosiness in my home and a nice scent completes the picture. Especially now, during the cosy winter season!

Make your own simmer pot: natural fragrance for your home

A simmer pot is really nothing more than a pan of water filled with natural fragrance ingredients, which you let simmer gently on the cooker. The whole house then fills with the most wonderful scents.

What you need

  • A pan or small soup pot
  • Water
  • Natural ingredients for the fragrance (here are some ideas):
    • For a warm winter fragrance: cinnamon sticks, orange peels, and a few cloves
    • For a fresh spring scent: lemon peels, rosemary and a vanilla pod
    • Feel free to experiment with what you like!

How to make it

  1. Fill the pan about two-thirds full with water.
  2. Add your chosen fragrance makers. Don’t be too sparing, especially citrus and spices are best in generous amounts.
  3. Bring the water to the boil and then turn the heat very low so that it simmers gently.
  4. Keep an eye on the pot and top up water if necessary. Don’t let it boil completely dry!
And voilà, your house smells great! The nice thing is that you can really adapt this with the seasons. This way, you can create a new, cosy atmosphere in your home all the time.
Another small but important point to note: make sure you never leave the simmer pot on the fire when you are not at home. It’s fine to leave your simmer pot simmering for a few hours, as long as you are around and check it regularly. That way, it stays safe.
I hope you guys like this idea as much as I do. Be sure to let me know if you try it out and which fragrance combinations are your favourite!
Love, Daphne
