For Every Occasion: 4 Picnic Ideas

There are days when I just want to tuck a blanket under my arm, grab a well-stocked basket, and head outside—to a place where the grass is soft, the birds are singing, and time seems to stand still for a moment. For me, a picnic doesn’t have to be complicated at all. It’s the simple things that make it special: a homemade snack, something refreshing to drink, and good company.

Whether I’m heading out with my family, packing a romantic picnic for two, going for a walk with a backpack full of treats, or settling down with friends in a sunny spot surrounded by nature… every picnic feels like a little celebration. I’d love to share my favorite recipes, so all you have to do is find a nice spot.

Family Picnic

Poffertjes with Fruit on Skewers

Ingredients:
– Poffertjes and strawberries, banana, pineapple, and/or other fruit.

Prepare this dish at home in advance. Cut the fruit into wedges. Cook the poffertjes according to the package instructions. Once the poffertjes have cooled, alternate a poffertje and a piece of fruit on a skewer. Place them in a container and then pack them in your backpack.

Picknick voor een date

Sweet Muffins
Ingredients:
– 450 g self-rising flour
– 1.5 packets vanilla sugar
– 280 gr white granulated sugar
– 280 ml milk
– 2 eggs
– 20 g melted butter
– packet of glaze
– sweet sprinkles
First, preheat the oven to 180°C. Combine all the ingredients except the milk in a bowl and mix. While mixing, gradually pour in the milk. Using a piping bag, pipe the batter into the greased baking cups. Bake for about 10 minutes. Then dip the cooled donuts in chocolate or colored glaze and sprinkle them with sugar, sprinkles, or other toppings.
Tip: Don’t forget your sunscreen! In the spring, the sun can get very strong very quickly without you even noticing.

Picnic Basket for Hikers

Fruit Mix in a Glass

Ingredients:
– assorted fruits and a sprig of mint.

At home, slice and segment the assorted fruits. Place them in a glass jar or cup with a screw-top lid. Fill the jar with water and screw the lid on tightly. During your hike, the fruit and water will naturally mix together in your backpack to create a refreshing and healthy drink.
Tip: Never bring honey on a hike, because before you know it, you’ll be followed by a swarm of bees. And pack small snacks in an
egg carton. That way, they’ll stay fresh and undamaged in your backpack.

Picnic with Friends

Every year, a few friends and I organize a picnic in nature. Last year, we actually took the train to the coast. From the station, we walked a few kilometers to the beach. It’s one of our favorite days of the year.

A light red wine For a picnic, we generally recommend a light red wine. They have a translucent color and high
acidity. This makes them approachable and easy to drink. The fruity aroma is especially delightful during an outdoor picnic like this. Put the bottle in the fridge the day before you leave; that’s when the wine tastes best.

A bite of bread with cheese It’s certainly nothing new when I tell you that wine and cheese go well together. But if you’re picnicking outdoors and have been for a walk, it’s especially a good idea to have something to eat along with your wine. So bring along a few kinds of cheese and bread in whatever form
you like.

What recipe would you make for a picnic?
